Shangri- La (Shambhala) is a mythical kingdom, believed to exist somewhere between the Himalayan mountains and the Gobi desert. Some believe that it is hidden because it lies on the edge of physical reality as a bridge connecting this world to the one beyond it. According to the Hindu Puranas, the eight avatar of Vishnu, called Kalki, will be born in Shangri- La and after destroying the dark forces in the universe, a golden era will start (Satya Yuga). The Puranas also prophesied the ruling kingdom of the new Buddha (Maitreya). |
