OM (Aum, Omkara or Pranava) is the sacred syllable/ sound that forms Udgitha, the sound of the universe. We refer to Om as Pranava mantra. This mantra, which helps us cross the ocean of Samsara (death and rebirth cycle), has its origin in the Vedic philosophy. The Upanishads claim that Om is God in the form of a sound, the sylable with the divine meaning of Tatha (So be it).
