The Dharma Wheel or Dharmachakra is one of the most sacred and ancient symbols, representing the order of the universe. It is believed that this wheel can overcome all cravings, attachments and desires. In Hinduism, Dharmachakra symbolises three principles: duty, work and righteousness. In Buddhism, a Dharma wheel with 8 spokes represents the Eightfold Path of enlightened path and when it has 10 spokes it represents the ten directions in life. This 12 folds Dharmachakra symbolises the 12 Links of dependant originations: ignorance, volitional action, conditioned consciousness, name-and-form (matter joining mind), the six senses, sense impression, feelings, desires, attachment, becoming, birth and death. |
